Applying The Word......

There are many Christians today that struggle with the ways of the World and have a hard time overcoming. The important thing to remember that "Church" is for sinners, not for saints.  The Church is a hospital for sick patients.  Once we get "real" and get "religion" out of it and understand that it is an intimate relationship with Jesus, then the learning can actually begin.  In my early faith walk there were many years that I did not "get it" and didn't apply anything I learned or read.  I would read something and the moment that "good feeling" would go away then I would go right back to my routine.  This blog post is going to be about applying the Word to your everyday life.  Some of the things that I am going to talk about, I am really going to stress on.

First:
You MUST have Jesus as your Lord and Savior.  He has to be your personal Savior and you have to fully trust, lean and rely on him.  You must admit that you are a sinner and that you have sinned.  You must believe that Jesus is Lord and Savior, and you must confess it with your mouth.  You have to believe that he died, rose from the dead, and that he ascended into Heaven.  It helps to understand that God loves you so much and he couldn't get to you because "SIN" was keeping you from him, so he sent his one and only Son Jesus to come and take your place so you could come back to him and be in fellowship with him.  We are to run to God and run to his arms.  We realize that we cannot go through life alone, and we have to understand what happened at Calvary's Cross.

Second:
Once you FULLY understand what happened at Calvary's Cross and what Christ saved you from and delivered you from, you can understand that you didn't deserve one thing he did for you, and you can accept the grace that was freely given to you.  When you reach this point you are so thankful and grateful and you want to please God. In Hebrews 11:6 it says "And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him."  So we must have faith in order to please God.  In John 17:17 it says " Sanctify them in your truth, your word is truth."  So we know that Gods Word is the ONLY truth that we have in this world.  Once you understand this, you should want to know for yourself first hand on what Gods Word has to say.  There are so many times when people rely on other people to tell them the Word of God and the truth is that God wants to speak to YOU.  Remember that it is about having an intimate relationship with the Almighty!!  There are times when people will state their "religion" and think that it covers it all.  People like their "labels" and when you start to ask further questions you understand that they do not even know what they believe.  I can speak from personal experience that I was raised Catholic and would of said my label was "Catholic" but my lifestyle showed I wasn't and I didn't know anything about Jesus.  I "knew" what he did for the World and the basics but it was all textbook knowledge, it wasn't real and I didn't believe it.  So that example just shows that "labels" do not mean one thing.  Your lifestyle will speak VOLUMES if you truly have Jesus as your Lord and Savior.  So you should start diving into Gods Word and see for yourself what it says.  Before you read it each time, ask God to speak to you and give you wisdom. In Psalm 84:11 it says "For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless."  So if you are seeking God and asking for wisdom then you know that God is eagerly waiting to show you and give you wisdom.  Start seeking Gods Word and he will make it real to you and cater it specifically for what you are going through.

Third:
Whatever you read in Gods Word, meditate on it and pray about it.  Go over during the day the certain scripture you read and ask yourself "How does that apply to me?"  "What is God saying to me through this verse?"  Ask yourself "Is there a better time or event on when I could apply this verse?"  It is so important to remind yourself that Gods Word is the ONLY truth in this world, so it MUST be above your own word.  Do you understand what I just said?  I will say it one more time.  Gods Word MUST be ABOVE your OWN Word!!!!!  This means you are not to rely on your thoughts, feelings, sounds, sight, etc.  We are not moved by the things that we see, or hear, we are only to stand on Gods Word.  So when you are having a rough moment/flesh moment then we need to remind ourselves of Gods Word and what it says.  In the moment of sorrow, anger, sadness, confusion, etc we need to run to Gods Word and see what 100% truth says about that particular issue.  Then when we read what it says, we need to recite it out loud and speak it back to him and stand on that verse!!!  Keep confessing his word over your flesh and how you feel.  This is how you start to apply Gods living word to your life.  Think about it this way, however old you are, you have been "set" in your ways for awhile now.  There are things you learned from when you were a child and there are things you have learned throughout adult hood.  You cannot change or learn something new overnight.  It takes time and practice to form new habits and break old habits.  This means that this is a "learning" stage to where you will have to apply Gods Word to situations as they come up and learn to stand on his word.  Are you going to make mistakes?  YES!!!  But it is ok, that is what Gods grace is for :)  We are to repent, stand up again and keep moving forward.  You will have plenty of opportunities to apply Gods Word, you just have the choice to either do it YOUR way or GODS way.  The first natural reaction will be to do it "your" way, but when you step back and pray about it, then God will have the Holy Spirit enlighten you on what Gods Word says and how to BE Jesus.  I am going to get you started on your first Bible verse today :)  It is James 1:19 " My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry."

Here is a verse that you can meditate on and ask yourself how you can use this verse in your everyday life!!  Trust me when I say that you will have COUNTLESS opportunities to use this bible verse and this verse will stretch you in a good way!!!  It is so easy to speak before thinking, and any fool can get angry and say  hurtful things.  It takes a strong person to listen, speak slowly, and not get angry.  I pray that this blog post will help you in your faith walk, and help you to apply Gods Word to your everyday life!!!
